Isn't it funny how there are songs that you didn't like back when you were in high school...but now they bring back nostalgic feelings and you listen to them when they come on the radio, even though in the 70s you would have switched radio stations if they came on? Now there are some songs, like "Proud Mary" that I've always hated (yes, I know that hate is a strong word, but that's how I feel about that song...and anything by Janis Joplin) that I don't listen to no matter how nostalgic I'm feeling.
Also, songs that were OK and their words are ingrained in your head forever. If I said, "Class. Class. SHUT UP!" Would that trigger a memory? Or how about that part of the same piece (that's been running through my head the last few days) that goes:

TEACHER:
Now that`s fine, young man!
STUDENT :
...Then I went downtown to look for a job...
TEACHER:
Now that`s fine, young man!
STUDENT :
...Then I got a job, keeping people from here and out in front of the drugstore. The fourth day on my...
TEACHER:
Young man? Young man? Young man!? SHUT UP!!!!! Thank you.
Now class, I have a surprise for you! I`m going to read you some poems out of this lovely book of poetry. The sun kisses the morning skies. The birds kiss the butterflies. The dew kisses the morning grass.
Yes, folks, it's that wonderful classic "Sister Mary Elephant" from those wonderful young men that I avoided at all costs...except for this piece...Cheech and Chong.
School's out forever...
No recollection at all!
ReplyDeleteYou're too young, I'm guessing. In truth, you aren't missing much.
