Graduation

So, Hannah graduated tonight. In her honor, I made this cow cake, based on a cake in a newspaper clipping that her Aunt Denise had given to her. I thought she came out rather well.

Before the ceremony, the graduates meet at the elementary school next door. This is where they pick up their "extras." Hannah's red cords are for the Young Republican's club, the yellow cords are for being an Honor Grad, the light blue stole is for National Honor Society, the darker blue stole is for the International Thespian Society (its hiding underneath the black stole), and the black stole is for Student Council (she was the secretary this year).

Glen's best friend from high school, Dale Erquiaga, was there with the guest speaker, Nevada's Governor Brian Sandoval. Glen and Dale had a few minutes to chat. Governor Sandoval had lived in Fallon when he was in elementary school. Dale graduated here with Glen in 1981.

Garrett Kalt, who was one of the co-valedictorians (that's why he gets to wear that nice medal) and was on the Student Council with Hannah, has been a friend of Hannah's since about 2nd grade. They walked together for the ceremony.

Aunt Kathy and cousin Becky were in the stands with surprise visitor cousin Haley, who is just passing through Fallon on her way to a new job in California.

With front row seats, Alex, Grandma and Grandpa, Geoff, Geoff's mom Lysa, and Uncle David visit while waiting for everything to start (Aunt Jackie came later).

Hannah, being a member of the Student Body, got to do the "Teacher & Staff Recognition" for 2 employees who were retiring this year: Grace Ernst, the librarian, and Bob Hirning, a Special Ed teacher (he used to be Eric's case manager).

So, now it's 11:30 pm and about time for Glen and me to leave to go to the Grad Night party out on the Navy Base...
